| The Dark Knight DVD Movie Review While this is not the second ever Batman film, it is the second in the series of the recent films with Christian Bale starring as the masked vigilante. The Dark Knight has taken Batman much further and is much longer than you may have expected. It is a remake of the original Batman starring the Joker. Instead of Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger takes the role of psychotic smiling criminal mastermind who seems hell bent for destroying Gotham. It is the usual story of Batman saving Gotham City from destructive but this film has a much greater depth than all the previous other Batman films. The schemes and methods of deception are intelligent and engaging. It is important that you concentrate from the start so you can keep track of everything that is happening and fully appreciate the films. As you might expect from a Hollywood superhero movie, the action is spectacular. There are numerous car chasing scenes involving the bat mobile, not to mention the complete destruction of a hospital along with other high quality explosions. However, while in your normal Hollywood superhero movies the action may have been the main draw to the film, Dark Knight offers much more and for me the action became more of a side show rather than the main event. The new team behind Batman have been able to take the story and plot to a whole new level. There is so much more character depth and many more sub-plots. However, the main focus of the story is still the Joker trying to rob the citizens blind and kill Batman in the process. One of the main assets of this recent Batman film, The Dark Knight is its spectacular cast. Nearly every major part is filled by Hollywood A-listers including Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and countless more. By far the two best performing stars are the main protagonists themselves, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. Bale is utterly convincing a ruthless and even scary figure that managed to show a more sinister side than in previous films. In The Dark Knight we see an angry and even vengeful side to Batman's character which is far away from the charm and collected figure we associate with the older film. With regards to Heath Ledger, he had some big shoes to fill by taking over a role that had been previously performed by Jack Nicholson. However, for me, he did not just match Nicholson he was far and away the better Joker. Ledger's performance was fantastic and was left imprinted on me for some time after I had seen the film. Had the Dark Knight been in a different genre then he may have been in line for an Oscar. Ultimately, when am I looking to find some negative to put in this Dark Knight movie review to try and give a balanced view I really can not find any. I was a truly gripping film that was able to tick absolutely every box. It had romance, action, drama, tragedy, comedy and so much more. This is the film everyone will be talking about for a long time to come so go and see it! I had already pre-ordered my copy on DVD :) |
