Quantum of Solace Review

Quantum of Solace follows straight on from the previous film. I would recommend
watching
Casino Royale before going to see the latest installment, if you want to
understand the storyline and keep up. There are many of the same faces from the
last movie including, Felix, the CIA agent, Judi Dench as M and Mathus also makes a
return. Unfortunately, for all you classic Bond lovers out there, there is no Q and not
even the slightest reference to Money Penny. Quantum of Solace is a story of
discovery and most definitely revenge. Bond is trying to get to the bottom of what
happened to Vesper and is willing to topple and kill some of the world's most powerful
men in order to do so. Bond receives help along the way from
Gemma Arterton as
Agent Fields and Olga Kurylenko as Camille.

Daniel Craig is authentic and convincing as a ruthless killer who is desperate to get
to the bottom of what happened in the last film. Quantum of Solace has received a
large number of negative reviews and I can partly understand why but I still really
enjoyed it. Daniel Craig has reinvented Bond and I think you will either love or hate
his performance as Bond. Even if you do think he is a good Bond, his performance is
still excellent. Hopefully, Daniel Craig can follow on from this excellent performance
and chooses a better film than
Flashbacks of A Fool in between Quantum of Solace
and his next Bond performance. Still struggling from the emotional lose of Vesper in
the last film, Bond does not manage to bed, the lead Bond girl, Olga Kurylenko.
Unlike some of the other Bond girls, Kurylenko's character, Camille, has a past of her
own and is desperate to avenge the death of her mother. While Bond does not
manage to bed Camille, he does manage to bed Agent Strawberry Fields played by
Gemma Arterton. Both Bond girls add a certain something to the film and give decent
performances alongside such a dominating lead. I was slightly disappointed at how
short Gemma's performance was.

The main difference between the new Bond and the old Bond films is high octane
action throughout. Admittedly, some of the subtleness has been lost but the action is
absolutely fantastic. While, it is not quite the same level as
Bourne, it is not too far
away. Quantum of Solace is both gripping and entertaining. However entertaining this
film may be, there are a number of drawbacks that will stop Quantum of Solace being
the same success as
Casino Royale. Even the opening chase scene and the theme
song are just simply not as good as
Casino Royale. Moreover, for those of you that
have not seen the Casino Royale recently and find it difficult to follow a complicated
plot then you will probably not enjoy this film.

Overall, for those of you that love the original Bond movies then you may not enjoy
the new aggressive and emotional Bond who seems to spend more time coming to
terms with himself rather than defeating those around him. However, for those of you
that enjoyed Casino Royale, like myself, then you will really enjoy this film even
though it does not quite reach the heights of Casino Royale. It is likely that the next
film in the series will be even better but I think Quantum of Solace is worth going to
see and definitely worth adding to your
DVD collection.
