at a prom. Aside from the that the film is not actually scary.."

There is no real story, no suspense, little meaningful dialogue and
nothing else to keep the audience interested."

Prom Night Review

‘Prom Night’, the plot is obvious from the start. If you’ve seen the original,
made in 1980, the 2008 version has changed slightly and has become
very predictable. Brittany Snow plays the main character Donna. It is the
evening of her senior prom which expected to be one of the best most
magical nights of her life. Instead of her fantasies and expectations of
the night coming true, her prom night becomes an evening of murder.
The audience watch a killer kill all of her friends and then await for the
killer to approach Brittany.

As horror movies go, this one is bad. Donna’s family had been murdered
a few years ago by her teacher who has an obsessive crush on her.
After the teacher escapes from his psychiatric ward, he returns to the
school to kill Donna and her friends. Often known as a ‘slasher’ movie,
the killings at times are quite comic, if they happen at all. When the
police arrive on the scene, bodies are found but the actual killing scene
was never shot. When the killer suddenly appears in the mirror ready to
kill, although it may make you jump, it is predictable. The element of
surprise is lost. Of course there is a lot of blood and the cast who I would
say are quite weak give an unconvincing kill at times. Even the killer
played by Jonathon Schaech, is hardly feared by the audience. At times
you are waiting for a kill because the ‘Prom Night’ does not flow from kill
to kill.

The cast is disappointing and even Brittany Snow although being
beautiful throughout, ‘Prom Night’ does not do her justice. The killer kills
with a tiny kitchen knife weapon and the whole film just appears as a let
down. Everything that is a cliché of horror movies appears in ‘Prom Night’.

Overall I would say ‘Prom Night’ is not even worth renting it on DVD for
£3. A cinema ticket is a waste of money and also a waste of time. There
are many other films that are worth going to see over ‘Prom Night’. It is
often hard to give a film such a bad review, but this one truly does
deserve it.
