| Notorious Film Review Notorious focuses on the story of the 'notorious' rapper Christopher 'Biggie' Wallace who was able to use his rare talents to rise out of a rough life of poverty and rise to the top of his world. Hence, the tag of the film, 'no dream is too big'. This tale of the underdog rising against all the odds is the theme running throughout the film and is the typical American Dream style plot line that films of this genre are keen to follow. As I am not a big fan of 'Biggie' I am not sure how accurate the film itself actually is, though that is of little importance in judging whether the film is good or not. For me, the film was a bit too serious and trying to be something more than I and probably a number of people going to see it wanted it to be. I would have preferred a more light hearted and jovial film that was not quite so intense. Moreover, another of the main problems in this film is that I do not actually like 'biggie' after watching the film. He is involved in crime and in some cases murder through his own choice and he constantly cheats on his various girlfriends or mistresses or whatever you want to call them. A key thing to consider when writing this Notorious film review is that the film itself is produced by his mother which suggests the film may paper over some of the less desirable sides of 'smalls' character. However, the net result of these adaptations is a pretty boring and uninteresting movie that does little to capture the attention of the audience. In terms of the cast, the acting is ok and Jamal Woolard and Derek Luke, playing the two main characters, both give decent performances considering how little they have to work with in terms of dialogue and all they have to really do is act like rappers rather do anything more meaningful. In terms of the appearance of the cast, costumes, sets and the rest of it, is all pretty convincing and the characters could be mistaken for gangster rappers in the dangerous nineties. Overall, there are a number of reasons not to like this film and not many reasons to like the film. As a result, I did not really enjoy the movie at all. To be honest, even those interested in the career of 'smalls', of which I do not think there are many, will enjoy this film at all. While there are a couple amusing moments, I do not think they are intended and instead I was laughing because of how bad and stupid some of the dialogue is. Ultimately, I would not recommend going to see this film under any circumstances and I will definitely not be buying it on DVD. |
