| Iron Man DVD Movie Review Iron Man focuses on Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr who is the one of the world's top arms dealers. With this job comes great wealth and an amazing lifestyle which we are shown in the early part of the film. He has fast cars, a huge mansion and anything else he wants. The guy even made a computer at the age of four. However, after being captured whilst demonstrating one of his new inventions to the US military, Tony Stark who lived life to the full, begins to realise and imagine the suffering and devastation some of his weapons can cause. While initially creating the Iron Man suit to escape his captors he uses the Iron Man suit to help those who he put into harm's way. Iron Man is one of the most hyped films of our generation and has probably the largest advertising budget of any film ever made. It is the latest in a string of superhero movies that have come out in recent years. Iron Man offers something different and shows a different side to the hero before he becomes the hero. Tony Stark really had it all already unlike Peter Parker in Spiderman. Moreover, the Iron Man suit is far more impressive than the Batman suit. In some sections of the film community, the casting of Robert Downey Jr was seen as an unlikely choice. However, that is what makes his performance brilliant and Iron Man unique from other superhero films. Tony Stark enjoys the fast life before deciding to become a world hero. Robert Downey Jr is both funny and quirky which makes his performance thoroughly enjoyable. His emotions are convincing and he has a real presence on the screen which you would expect when he is playing such a prominent character. He is likeable and a large proportion of the cinema were laughing at some of his jokes, including myself. Gywneth Paltrow and the rest of the cast also provide good performances. It is the acting which can let films of this genre down but Iron Man does not disappoint. The action in this film is spectacular and Iron Man is cool. The suit is awesome. Flying around the world is good and the ease at which Iron Man destroys his opponents is great. Obviously, there are some things which do not completely make sense but you have to ignore them to enjoy the film. A positive was that it took only a little while for the real action to start although there was quite a bit of scene setting during the middle of the film. The only slight criticism is that the closing fight scene could have been a little bit better but was still enjoyable. Often in action movies the plot is neglected and is replaced by special effects and violence. That is not the case in Iron Man. The script is well constructed and funny, which is a must. While it is not going to win an Oscar for the story line there are enough twists and turns to keep the audience guessing a little bit. There are the usual annoying cliche lines which superheros seem to have to say but apart from that the plot is good. Overall, films with such hype can often disappoint but Iron Man ticked all the boxes for me. Robert Downey Jr was excellent along with the rest of the cast. The action is spectacular and can only really be appreciated in a cinema unless you have a 50"+ TV. Iron Man is a likeable superhero and Tony Stark is someone that everyone wants to be. I really enjoyed this film and would recommend it to everyone. |
