| Hotel For Dogs Review Hotel for Dogs is probably the first out and out family film of the year that is not fully animated. Subsequently, if you are over the age of 12 or possibly even younger then this film is not for you. As you might expect from the title of the film, the plot of the film revolves on a hotel reserved specially for dogs which sounds like a stupid idea for a film and to me it still is a stupid idea for a film. Moreover, as is the case for all films in this genre, there is a period of trouble and adversity in the film which is then overcome and there is a moral at the end of the story. Surprisingly, the film has been able to attract some relatively well-known actors even if they are going through relatively lean spells in their respective careers. The most notable cast members Emma Roberts, Don Cheadle and Lisa Kudrow. While none of their performances are particularly spectacular, I do not really blame them at all because they really had very little to work with in terms of a decent plot or interesting dialogue. So, we have established the plot and dialogue are pretty poor but in films like Hotel For Dogs that does not mean it is not enjoyable and sometimes it can be used to feel make the film work and bring smiles to the faces of the older members of the audience. However, humour is an area where Hotel for Dogs is seriously lacking from start to finish. While there are some scenes which made the children in the audience laugh, there is nothing for the older viewer. Moreover, for me, the film tries too hard to be funny and it is actually quite painful to watch in places. However, the audience, which was mainly children, did seem to enjoy the film and so I suppose in some ways the film could be considered a success though we will have to wait and see how it performs at the box office. Overall, I have to say that I found this film pretty tedious for the majority of the time. However, it did seem to appeal to the children in the audience and I could see why some people could quite enjoy the corny and predictable plot line along with the lovable dogs which brought a few awww groans from the female members of the audience. Ultimately, Hotel for Dogs was not for me and I won't be buying it on DVD. If you normally enjoy this type of film and liked the trailer then you probably enjoy Hotel for Dogs and you should probably ignore my Hotel for Dogs review. |
