| He's Just Not That Into You Review While this is not quite the Love Actually romantic masterpiece, it is definitely trying to be it and there are clear parallels to be seen. The film star Jennifer Anniston, Ben Affleck, Justin Long and Scarlett Johannson amongst others which is encouraging start for the film and is why he has attracted so much interest. Basically 'He's Just Not That Into You', shows all the possible situation that a woman can be in her romantic life. One of these somewhat amusing situations is that of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Anniston who are in a relationship and seem to have everything although they have one problem, he does not want to get married. When Jennifer Anniston's sister then announces that she is going to be married, Anniston then has to decide whether she can settle for a life without marriage but with the perfect man or wherever her desire for the ring on her finger will mean she has to move on. The interesting part, and the thing that makes 'He's Just Not That Into You' like 'Love Actually' is that each of the character's lives interlink with some disastrous consequences. Unfortunately, while there are a number of problems with this film, the main problem is the lack of spark which means the film is quite mundane and frankly boring at certain stages. This lack of spark is made worse by the lack of actually funny humour and the lack of a truly interesting plot line that fails to offer any surprises from the beginning to the end. However, for me, it is the lack of humour which lets the film down most out of everything. If there had been a bit more humour and chemistry between the cast then the film could have been ok despite the ailing plot. Nevertheless, I do not think it was the actors who were to blame for the lack of chemistry because the cast is impressive by anyone's standards and they all give reasonable performances with Jennifer Anniston and Ben Affleck providing the two standout performances. Instead, it is the writing and possibly directing of the film which has let He's Just Not That Into You down. Overall, much as I was quite looking forward to this film because of the hype and A-list class but unfortunately He's Just Not That Into You never makes it into second gear let alone third or fourth. Even if you are a big fan of romantic comedies, then you will still probably not enjoy the film. For those of you, like me, who do not normally like romantic comedies then you should definitely steer of this film in the cinema, do not buy it on DVD and I would not even recommend watching it for free on the TV. |
