GHOST TOWN DVD REVIEW
Certificate: 15
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Chris' Verdict On Ghost Town DVD: 7/10- "Much has been made of what is to be
Ricky Gervais' film big screen movie appearance. I was expecting a lot from Ghost
Town and it was able to deliver to some extent. There were patches of brilliance and
moments of mediocrity, combined these made for an average film."
Ellie's Verdict On Ghost Town DVD: 7/10- "I am a big fan of Ricky Gervais and it is
a shame this is set to be his last major appearance. Ghost Town is unlikely to be
rated as the best comedy of the year but it is still worth going to see and I enjoyed
the film."

Ghost Town DVD Film Review
Ghost Town marks Ricky Gervais' first headline role in a Hollywood movie. Rather
than being overwhelmed by the role, he embraces it and is able to get one of his best
film performance. Gervais' character plays a miserable rude dentist who finds a
simple hello too much effort. Everything changes when he has a return operation but
after complications he dies for a brief 7 minutes before being brought 'back to life'
After this experience, the miserable dentist is able to communicate to the ghosts
wandering the streets of New York. In trying to rid himself of the ghosts, he falls in
love and the witty persona hidden beneath the rude exterior is revealed.
The idea for the film is quite original which is not something that can be said for many
Hollywood films. However, there are some problems with the plot and the dialogue.
For me, the film takes a too long to become interesting to the audience and it was
over 45 minutes before I found myself laughing. Moreover, some of the romance and
other scenes are too corny for my liking and detracted from the film slightly. However,
the plot and dialogue do manage to completely alter the audience's perception of the
dull dentist. You change from hating the obnoxious idiot to having sympathy for
position as more and more of his past is revealed.
Obviously, the main attraction of this film is Ricky Gervais. The film has plenty of the
rude dead pan jokes that everyone has become accustomed to. While Gervais
provides a good performance it would not have been enough to sustain a full length
feature film without the support of an able and gifted cast. Arguably, it is the
supporting cast that make Ghost Town a success.
Overall, if you are a fan of Ricky Gervais' other work and film cameos then I would
definitely recommend going to see Ghost Town. For me, the romance throughout the
film does make it more female orientated. While some of the scenes can be tedious
and predictable to say the least, there is still plenty to make this film enjoyable.
Despite the certificate, I doubt that many people under the age of 18 or even 30 will
like the film or appreciate the humour. Even if you do not normally like Ricky Gervais I
think you will still enjoy the film's originality and excellent dialogue.
