| Friday the 13th Film Review Friday the 13th is yet another remake of the original Friday the 13th film series and to be honest there is little if any difference between this film version and the others that have come before. The basic plot is pretty much the same as the original movies and is also quite similar to other teen slasher movies like All Boys Love Mandy Lane among others. The story revolves around a group of teenagers who travel off to the forest for a break of sex, alcohol and drugs. As you might have expected things did not go quite how they had expected and a masked killer starts killing them off one by one until the whole lot has been wiped out. Then, a brother of one of the girls who was killed, embarks on a quest with his friends, to find the killer only for him and his friends to become the new victims. Unfortunately, the plot never gets anymore or less complicated than I have outlined above and the outline is the actual film. This is one of the many flaws in this film because there really is nothing to anticipate or wonder about. You know from the start that the characters are going to be killed off. To be honest, in a teen slasher movie I did not expect there to be much of a plot and that is not what lets the film down. Instead, it is the fact that the story has been repeated too many times for it to be enjoyable anymore. There is no real noticeable differences between this film and the others in the series apart from a bit less nudity and better graphics. Being a teen slasher movie on an inevitably low budget, the cast is lacking of the kind of recognised stars well known to the average cinema goer. However, after seeing the film I can see why none of these stars are well established in Hollywood and they are probably destined to continue their careers in low budget movies. The main thing that any teen slasher movie should be judged on is the authenticity of the gore and quality of action. On both of these counts, the film starts off well but unfortunately it never reaches the heights of the first 20 minutes throughout the rest of the film. Some of the murders are quite cool and gore is authentic. Ultimately, there are few reasons to see this film and the bulk of the people that do go to see Friday the 13th will do so because they feel in some way obliged to go and see a slightly gripping slasher movie to try and prove their masculinity. Under no circumstances should girls go and see this film because they will really not enjoy it. Overall, if you want to see a good Friday the 13th film then rent a copy of the older films rather than wasting your money going to see this at the cinema. |
