TAKEN DVD REVIEW

Certificate: 15

Genre: Action

Chris' Verdict On Taken DVD: 7/10- "In Taken, Liam Neeson has announced himself
as an actor star and possibly one of Hollywood's hardest men. While he is far from
being as effective as Matt Damon's Bourne, Neeson is still an authentic hero and
Taken is definitely worth watching."

Ellie's Verdict On Taken DVD: 6/10- "I loved Neeson in Love Actually. It is a
testament to his acting skills that he is able to appear in both romantic comedies and
action hits. While I am not a fan of action, I still enjoyed this film even though it is
definitely not a classic."

TAKEN DVD FILM REVIEW
Taken DVD Review

Taken marks a rare appearance for Liam Neeson as a pumped action star. Leaving
behind Love Actually and picking up his gun, Neeson is convincing as a ruthless man
that has nothing on his mind other than his daughter, Grace. As you might expect
from the title of the film his daughter is kidnapped. However, in some senses of the
word he has already lost his daughter when his wife took Grace from him. In a chilling
sequence Neeson hears his daughter kidnapped before vowing to hunt down and
murder those responsible.

Is Liam Neeson an action star? I must admit that I was one of the many people that
had my doubts about the credentials of Liam Neeson, as an action hero. While he is
a quality actor, he is nearly 60 and he would not be blamed if he were to choose
more 'relaxing' roles. However, his performance in Taken is fantastic. The formerly
pleasant Liam Neeson has disappeared and a relentless killer in his place.

Unfortunately, despite Liam Neeson's fantastic efforts he is incapable of saving a
destined to be average film, from being average. When reviewing Taken I had to
compare it to other films in this genre, including Man on Fire and even the latest
Bourne movie. Unfortunately, Taken is not in the same class as Bourne or Man on
Fire. While, Liam Neeson's performance is on a par with those of
Denzel Washington
and
Matt Damon respectively, the plot and script culminate ruin a potentially good
film. Instead of a compelling and gripping storyline, the plot line is a string of action
sequences mish mashed together.

Overall, the violence and action is probably not for everyone. If you do not enjoy
violent films and steer clear of films like Hostage and Man on Fire then Taken is
another film to avoid. However, despite all its failings, Neeson was able to salvage
what was left of the film and make it worth at least a rental if you like films in this
genre.
